Date: 04/02/2014
Source: Text Book Management Information Systems For The Information Age, by Haag/Cummings (Pg27) , McGraw-Hill

Story  in  this Case Study has been divide to 6 parts which all related to the used of social Media and impact of it in our daily life. What ever you post in your wall will be viewed globally and gives a lot of perception on who are we actually.  This happen to the  Stacy Snyder (25 years) was celebrating her last semester as teacher-in-training at Millersville university School of Education. One photo of herself  with a cup in her hand, wearing pirate hat  and with a caption " Drunken Pirate" on her Myspace page had caused her teaching degree being denied. This is what happen when you are not careful in using social media , may expose your life in the most transparent to people around the world.
However for John Reed, past president of the National Funeral Directors Association and current owner of two Virginia-based funeral homes, 20% -30% of all funeral homes in US now provide web-casting funeral services. For some family this webcast service very important to reach out to all friend and family and can be viewed across the Us and in other country.
A lot more story we can from the used of social media where sometimes can help government to fight with crime, helping agency and organization to know what customer need and to serve better and lot more. So as conclusion,  be careful what ever you post in your wall and use wisely your social media for good reason.
here our attachment from our group discussion on a few question in this case study, enjoy it.

Google and Apple Know Where You Are, Maybe

Date: 04/02/2014
Source: Text Book Management Information Systems For The Information Age, by Haag/Cummings (Pg29)  McGraw-Hill book

In this closing case study, it though about how discoveries were made regarding location tracking by Apple Iphones and Ipads and Google Android smartphones in April 2011. Pete Wardens and Alasdair Allan, British researchers discovered how list detailed on where Allan been over 300 days being provided by Allan's Iphone.together with time stamp for each location. How do you feel when those organization know exactly where you are at the specific time ?

Senator Al Franken, Democrat from Minnesota stated that," People have the right to know who is getting this information and how (it) is shared and used. Federal laws do far too little to protect this information.....No one wants to stop Apple or Google  from producing their product, but congress must find a balance between all those wonderful benefits and the public's right to privacy.
However, Apple comes out with the statement apple Iphones and Ipads only gather information nearby to cell tower and Wi-Fi hot spots andf never exposed to the third party all the information without consumer consent.Apple never track user's location and don't have planning to do so. but will continue sending nearby cell tower and Wi-Fi hot spot location data but only lat for 7 days only.
Same with Google were they admit that their device do harvest location data for marketing purpose, but the information is not traceable to individual users. they did ask Android user if they would like to turn off the location device features. If option in,all data made anonymous.

Below is link on our discussion based on the case study question.

Outrageous Industry Transformation: Death of Travel A Travel Agent

first we open the airasia website at www airasia com after it at top ...

Last month, we have been discussed how the transformation of cell phones has reduce or wiping out in-room phone revenue for hotels.  In the same area of industry, airline travel agent also having the same difficulties in continuing the business.  Before the networking functioning amazingly and become the trends for customer to booking their own travel, travels agents become the most place customer to look for in identify kind of travelling they want. At the same time, travel agent also offering hotel reservation, rental car service and another package of travelling to be promote. However, the increasing in using technology by customer has almost caused them closing their business.  They gain less revenue nowadays because customer chooses their own travelling package and booking directly through the website.

Below is a few questions we should ask our self in identify how this technology giving impact to travel agent:

1)      When you last flew, did you use a travel agent or go directly to the Web to book your Ticket?
For me, the last time I flew was during vacation with my parent and sisters to Kuching, Sarawak.  We only using Airlines Web to book our tickets and go directly to hotel website to choose and make our room reservation by our self. It very simple, save time and cost where paid for what we expect to get served. We also can check the availability all the reservation with our date of traveling. From there, we can manage and enjoy our holiday without thinking of paying extra fee for service.
2)      What is your preferred travel site for traveling? What features of it do you like best?
When booking our ticket via online, I ‘m using Airasia Travel Airline websites. This website is friendly user, where we can do our transaction easily without much trouble.  How about yourself, I believe have one in mind.
3)      Why are airlines fully supportive of moving reservation systems to the web and allowing consumers to make reservation for free?
There is no cost include in making reservation service because everything is done by customer itself without assist by airline staff.  Airlines also want to standardize the amount of customer should paid, beside that they also want customer to feel being part of airlines with giving better service to customer.

Overall, the study showed that there are many young Malaysians who prefer to book online instead of going through the more traditional channels of travel agent, ticket counter, and so on for these reason:
  •   They want hassle-free travel booking: prefer to do online booking for flights and accommodation as it is convenient, easy and time saving
  • They want more information: the internet provides various types of information and is their primary source, while travel agent is the last source to which they would refer
  •   They want a young, energetic and adventurous experience: travel more with friends and their spouse/partner, and are keen to get involved in activities like sports, adventure and beach related activities
  •  They would rather spend less on accommodation: choice of accommodation is budget to mid-range hotel which offers a good price range and is close to leisure activities.
